Thursday Theater: Two Stunning Films in September

Thursday Theater All We Imagine as Light & Ghostlight

Join us on the first Thursday of each month for Thursday Theater! We'll be showing two fantastic films on the big screen in the McAllaster Room for September.

First up at 2:00, All We Imagine as Light is a Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix winner.  Set against the hypnotic luminescence of Mumbai, the film follows three very different women working at the same hospital -- Prabha, Anu, and Parvathy -- each contending with personal and material struggles amid a modernizing India riven by gentrification and rising Hindu nationalism. When Parvathy is evicted and forced to move back to her childhood village, Prabha and Anu travel with her to the seaside, where they shake loose their remaining secrets -- and in one otherworldly sequence a lingering ghost.  This deep-rooted study of the fortifying power of friendship is propelled by moving performances and the director's compassionate eye. (Not rated. Run Time: 1h 58m)

Then at 6:00, Ghostlight tells the story of Dan, a melancholic construction worker.  When he finds himself drifting from his wife and daughter, he discovers community and purpose in a local theater's production of Romeo and Juliet. As the drama onstage starts to mirror his own life, he and his family are forced to confront a personal loss. (Rated R. Run time: 1h 55m)
